Caliente

A picturesque town in southeastern Nevada, Caliente is a friendly residential community characterized by beautiful cottonwood trees and rich history. Originally known as Culverwell, the railroad town was renamed “Calientes,” the Spanish word for hot, in 1901 after hot springs were discovered in a cave tucked at the base of the surrounding mountains.

Evidence of the town’s proud railroad past can be found in its mission-style railroad station, now home to city offices, a library and an art gallery, and in the charming string of “company row” houses situated northeast of downtown Caliente. The station and surrounding neighborhood give visitors a glimpse into the rich past of the charming small town. Visitors will also enjoy the hot springs and mineral baths for which Caliente is named. The springs are available year-round, as are the many activities that give Caliente its friendly neighborhood atmosphere. From community barbecues, homecoming reunions and softball tournaments to the annual Fourth of July celebration, that draws visitors from all over, Caliente’s events evoke a simpler, friendlier era.

Caliente also boasts beautiful natural terrain. Rainbow Canyon and Kershaw-Ryan State Park are located just south of Caliente, while Beaver Dam, Cathedral Gorge, Spring Valley and Echo Canyon State Parks are each within 50 miles. Off-roaders of all skill levels can explore the terrain on the Silver State Trail, a 260-mile roundtrip trail system near Caliente, Panaca and Pioche. The trail is an easy scenic ride that winds past natural hot springs, Native Indian rock art, and often herds of deer, antelope and wild horses.
